Ioan Botez is a Romanian artist , based in Sheffield - United Kingdom, who emerges from the fascinating world of tattooing, with over 10 years of experience. As a child he displayed an aptitude for visual arts and formal studies took him first to Bucharest University of Arts where he studied Fashion Design. His relentless search for new challenges brought him the opportunity to explore scenography, theater costume and art installations.

       Fascinated by the human body he finds that skin is a beautiful way to express himself, and he

learns the art of tattooing falling hopelessly in love with it.

He explores various styles and techniques but is attracted to the abstract-avant-garde and Japanese art.

       "I like to capture the movement in my paintings, gestures, facial expressions. They are expressions of emotions that my characters either don't want or can't show to you so I help them.  Sometimes they are fictional characters, sometimes they are real, but in both cases I try to surprise another part of their identity.

 I like to play with firm brush strokes, and prudent movements then I combine them with spontaneous, unpredictable gestures on canvas. I constantly try to find the perfect equilibrium between two worlds.

        I'm seeking for warm red tones that are provocative and dynamic at the same time, balancing them with the simplicity and elegance of black. Sometimes I am in a monochromatic sober mood. I use mixed media, oil-tempera-liners-charcoals and I almost never know what I will use until the end, I love the freedom of it. “
